December 2011

My Brother Sir Knights & Ladies,

I would like to thank everyone who attended this years Fall Harvest District Meeting on November 6th and Paul M. Onderbeke Assembly #1795, for the use of the St. Claire of Montefalco Parish Hall.

The response from the Assemblies was unbelievable when we asked for donations for boxes for Desert Angels.  Not only did we have a surplus of food and personal items but over $1000 was donated from various Assemblies and one LOTA in the District.  While the meeting was being held 47 of our Ladies participated in the "packing party" and filled 125 boxes.  At 5pm the boxes were picked up and enroute to our troops in Afghanistan.   The ladies actually ran out of Bibles and American Flags otherwise they would have continued.  The remaining donations of food and personal items were moved to the next packing party the following week and were identified as being donations from Michigan District #1.  I am so very proud of everyone in our District and their response.  Thank you.

Our next Exemplification is scheduled for Saturday, March 3, 2012 at Crystal Gardens in Southgate.  The Exemplification Program, Order Form and Spring Ad Book form can be found under the "Forms" tab above.  We hope to make this our biggest Exemplification yet.

The 4th Quarter District newsletter will be distributed at the end of December.  Watch for the newsletter for more details and pictures from events this past quarter.

Update:
Here is one of the many notes the District has received via Desert Angels from the boxes the Ladies packed.  (the boxes were "dropped" into Afghanistan the following week.).  Pictures will be loaded in the near future!

Dear Desert Angels,
Thank you so much for the care package. It means an awful lot to myself and the rest of my unit. I think just about every person here received a box from you guys and it was like the holidays around here. Everyone was smiling and laughing, having a wonderful time opening their own respective package. The items in each box are a small taste of home that give you the "oomph" you need to get up the next day. It reminds us that there is a light at the end of the tunnel and that there are family and loved ones, like yourself, awaiting our return . You folks have done such a wonderful thing and we can't thank you enough. It makes this place just a little more bearable.
Its easy to say "We appreciate the soldiers over seas" or "Yeah, we love our Military men and women" but you have truly demonstrated it and for that we thank you. I personally fight for the entire United States but I hold a special place in my heart for folks like you, and I would happily deploy anytime to keep each and everyone of you safe and free.
Thanks again for all you do, it means the world to us.
