Sew Much Comfort - Sewing Our Support for the Troops
Their Mission:
To provide custom-made adaptive clothing, free of charge, to our injured service members which aids in their recover, provides a tangible reminder of our
gratitude for their sacrifice and gives them an added measure of comfort and freedom as they recover from their injuries and return to every day life.
Adaptive clothing accommodates their medical devices and situations, provides ease of use, increases independence and minimizes the visual impact of
their medical condition.
Sew Much Comfort is a nationally recognized non-profit which provides adaptive clothing to support the unique needs of our wounded service members
from all branches of the military and National Guard. The need for the adaptive clothing continues to grow as American militay members continue to be injured serving in our current conflicts. Each week many wounded military members arrive in the US from Germany from extensive medical treatment for bullet wounds, burns, head and limb inuries and amputations. We also support many previously injured service members as their needs change and are still in the recovery process. These injuries require large fizator prosthetics and casts that are too bulky to fit under ordinary clothing and underwear. Without adaptive clothing the only option for them is a hospital gown. Sew Much Comfort is the only organization providing adaptive clothing at no cost to our wounded service members.
All the adaptive clothing was designed with input from the wounded and medical personnel. The wardrobe options continue to evolve as they strive to meet the needs of our injured service members.
The clothing sewn is simple construction with side seams fastened with a velcro closure system. The clothing gives medical personnel and service members the ability to have access to their injuries utilizing the adaptive openings in the clothing. The openings permit easy access for medical exams, physical and occupational therapy sessions. The clothing allows injured service members to easily dress themselves and the clothing appears as normal civilian attire.
They have produces and delivered over 75,000 items of adaptive clothing and comfort accessories since they began. They ship to medical units, hospital wards, clinics and military facilities in the US, Landstuhl (Germany) and Combat Medical Units in Iraq, Afghanistan and Kuwait. Their new focus is to have a presence in every military facility where our wounded are recovering while also providing adaptive clothing after they have recovered sufficiently to return home.

Volunteer YOUR Time:
The volunteers remain the driving force behind their success. The continued dedication and talent from making the adaptive clothing enables them to provide quality garments and comfort accessories for the wounded as they recover from their injuries.
The skills required for the garments require intermediate level of sewing. The construction techniques are different from normal sewing, not hard, but different. If you have intermediate sewing skills and would like to volunteer to sew, visit the website and click on the "seamstree info" link.
They will provide the fabric and instructions; all you need to provide is the thread, time and shipping costs or you can return the finished products directly to Pat Quintero and she will cover the shipping costs.
